Local Council Kokhav Ya'ir (meaning star of Ya'ir) is
situated NE of Kfar Saba on the western sloops of the Samaria
Mounts, west of the Green Line (1949 ceasefire agreements
border). Est. 1981, pop: 5,500. The Local Council is named after
"Ya'ir" Shtern, the leader and commander of LEKHI (Lukhame
Kherut Israel or Israel Freedom Fighters), the smallest
underground group during the Mandate era.
The municipal emblem has not been published in the official
gazette (Rashumot, Yalkut ha-Pirsumim). The mayor sent
me a logo on white. Sources: e-mail from Mr. Yonathan Rimon,
local council mayor, 16 September 2001; this
webpage.

According to 2003's local authorities changes, the neighboring
community of Zur Yig'al (previously part of Regional Council of Drom HaSharon ),
incorporated into Kokhav Ya'ir. The official name as appear in
the decrees of the Ministry of the Interior was as before:
"Local Council Kokhav Ya'ir", the locals are using the
unofficial name of "Kokhav Ya'ir-Zur Yig'al" as appear
in Hebrew on top of the official
municipal website with both emblems at the emblems page.
The website has no further informaion on the emblems nor any
photos of flags, a private website of the photographer of Kokhav Ya'ir
with hundreds of photos, provide us with more details: The flag
of Kokhav Ya'ir is probably based on the national flags but with
narrower green stripes. Unfortunatly, there is not a good photo
of Zur Yig'al flag but it seems that it is the
emblem on blue background.
Only days will tell if both emblems and flags will be used side
by side in the future. Nevertheless, it is in the intention of
MOTI to establish in the future a new city named :Kokhave Ya'ir
(Stars of Ya'ir) which include also the new community of
"Zur-Yitz'haq" now at building stage and other nearby
planned communities.
Kokhav Ya'ir is Local Council since 1981 and in the joint LC
there are 11,000 inh. (2003).
