Vendsyssel is on the northern tip of Jutland in Denmark and located between the Limfjord, the Kattegat and the Skagerrak, precisely the Jammerbugt. It is bordered south by the Limfjord, west by Thy and Hanherred. The towns of Frederikshavn, Hjørring, Skagen and Nørresundby, the part of Aalborg north of the Limfjord with its airport, belong to the area.

The flag is blue, red and green. Blue is for the sea and sky, green for the forests and red for Denmark.

About the Danish flag VENDELBROG, it has the colours because blue is for water, orange for dunes and green for the fields.

On this page is written:
"I den oprindelige udgave var der et dannebrogsflag i midten, man ville trods alt ikke helt afvise moderlandets rød-hvide farver. Den grønne farve symboliserer landets frodighed. Den gul/orange farve, sol og strand, og den blå, havet. Kun folk der er født i Vendsyssel må flage med Vendelbrog."
which translated says:
"The original flag featured a Dannebrog in the middle of the flag, because they did not want to reject the Danish national colours, either with golden bordure (see left image below) or without golden bordure (see right image below). The green colour symbolises the vigour of the country, the orange/yellow: sun and beach and the blue the sea. Only people born in Vendsyssel are allowed to use the Vendelbrog."
The site also states that the flag was born on nov the 27th 1976 in Hjørring. It is dradesigned by Mogens Bohøj.

Andersson gives the following details. In 1976 the Mayor of Hjørring, launched the idea of a flag for the area around his city. The resulting blue-red-green flag is called "Vendelbrog", and has been used to some extent according to Andersson.
Vendsyssel´s original flag was based on an idea of mayor Poul S Poulsen and was put down on paper by the artist Mogens Bohøj. It was first made and hoisted in
October 1976 and represents a peculiar variation on the traditional Nordic cross flags: A small Dannebrog flag set on a blue field that was charged with a green and yellow cross, the green and yellow also extending all around the Dannebrog. According to the two who developed the flag, the blue colour represented the sky and the sea, whereas the yellow represented the sun and beaches and green the prosperous land of Vendsyssel. The Dannebrog represented the Danish heritage of Vendsyssel.
