About the Flag

Red over white over black tricolour with a green five-pointed star in the middle of the white stripe. The star is of lesser height then the white stripe, and it is centered on it (i.e. the star itself, not the circle circumscribing it—there is as much space from the top of the star to the top white edge as it is from the two lower points of the star to the bottom of the white stripe). If there was some more detailed regulation, I am not aware of it.

Yemeni royalist forces

I have a scan of a flag used by Yemeni royalist forces during the Yemeni civil war (1962-1970).
The picture was taken in 1965 and the flag shows two crossed sabres and a lot of Arabic inscription, all in white on a dark background.

History of North Yemen

In 1962, the imam of Yemen was overthrown and the Yemen Arab Republic established.
After Egypt and Syria formed the United Arab Republic (UAR) in 1958, and Iraq and Jordan made a Federation - the Arab Union - the UAR and Yemen made a confederation called the United Arab States. There was no flag for this new federation, but Yemen took over the flag of the UAR removing one of the two stars. This flag was officially hoisted on 1 November 1962.
When North and South Yemen united on 22 May 1990, the new flag removed the star from it. There had been attempts to unite in 1972 and 1979.

Aircraft Marking (1962-1975)

[Aircraft Roundel, North Yemen]

North Yemen used this red, white and black roundel with a green five-pointed star in the white ring (at 12 o'clock) from 1962-1975. Apparently after that date the starless pattern was used as currently.
