According to its website, the Partido Comunista de Uruguay (Communist Party of Uruguay) was founded on 21, September 1920.

In 1971 the PCU was one of the political parties (alongside the Socialist Party, the Christian Democratic Party and other small political parties) that founded the Frente Amplio coalition.

Flag

The Flag of the Communist Party of Uruguay is a red flag with yellow hammer and sickle in the canton. However, the party's flag does not have a star above the hammer and sickle like the U.S.S.R. flag had. The ratio of this Uruguayan Communist flag is 2:3 or something very close to that.

Pictures of different Uruguayan communist flags appear in the website of the PCU. However apparently there are different details in the hammer and sickle for one flag to another. Most flags appear to be hand-made.

Some flags of the Communist Party of Uruguay (two or three flags) were seen on TV during the celebrations of the Frente Amplio victory in the presidential elections of October 2004. Again the hammer and sickle in these flags looked hand-made.

Flag variant

I saw this flag in Montevideo, Uruguay in March 2005 when the President Tabaré Vázquez started his government of the country. This image it's based on a picture I took. I own this flag as a souvenir of that historical Uruguayan day.

Unión de la Juventud Comunista Flag

Unión de la Juventud Comunista (Communist Youth's Union) is a communist youth movement inside the Communist Party of Uruguay. Its flag is red with a yellow star that has red letters with the acronym of the group (UJC). This flag appears in the official party webpage.
