The Cardinals are the oldest professional football club in the United States dating back to an amateur team formed in 1898. They were first known as the Racine Cardinals, named after Racine Avenue in Chicago where their first playing field was located, but became know as the Chicago Cardinals in later years. In 1920, after World War I, they received their NFL franchise which gives them the distinction of being the oldest continuously run professional football franchise in the nation. Along with the Chicago Bears, they are also one of only two founding NFL clubs to still exist. Between 1920 and 1959 Chicago hosted two NFL teams until the Cardinals moved to St. Louis (Missouri) in 1960, and finally to Phoenix (Arizona) in 1988. First known as the Phoenix Cardinals, in 1994 the team was renamed the Arizona Cardinals, and today play their home games at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
In 2009, the Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 32-25 in the NFC Championship game to advance to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. However, they lost Super Bowl XLIII 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2015, the Arizona Cardinals hired Jennifer Welter as an assistant coach and she is believed to be the first female coach in the NFL.
Note: Be aware that there are a host of manufacturer's variants of these and other fan flags being marketed for "Cardinals" fans. This includes garden flags, banners, and pennants.
