Oso is an Unincorporated Community located between Arlington and Darrington.
These communities have no recognized local government on the level of a city,
though various community lead organizations often take roles similar to town
governments. However, civil services are operated by the county rather than a
community organization. These community organizations will sometimes create
flags to represent their communities.
The flag of Oso is a blue field
with a green silhouette of the state of Washington. A white star shows the
location of the community. Next to the star is a logo consisting of the names of
the two cities Arlington and Darrington with the unofficial local motto of "OSO
PROUD, OSO STRONG".
The flag was created in 2014 in the aftermath of the
Oso landslide, which killed 43 people, the deadliest of its kind. The flag was
created and sold as a fundraiser campaign to help Oso recover from the deadly
landslide it had just experienced.
