Decatur is a city in Adams County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, it had 9,913 residents.
The Decatur Flag Committee announced a flag contest in November 2024 and
received 52 entries. The 3 finalists selected by the committee were subjected to
public voting in May 2025, and the winning flag, designed by Don Gephart, was
revealed on June 21, 2025.
The flag has a star to show Decatur’s role in
the county. Around the flag are olive branches, which are from the legacy of
Commodore Stephen Decatur, for whom the city is named; the city’s commitment to
harmony and honor; the county courthouse’s Peace Monument; and “In Pursuit of
Peace,” the motto of the guided missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG-73). On the
right and left sides are three horizontal stripes representing the US highways,
which connect Decatur to the state and the country, and Decatur’s “strategic
importance and regional connectivity.” The colors are gold from the Indiana
state flag; blue for loyalty, stability, and tradition; and white for peace and
a hopeful, bright future.

Decatur uses Indiana's generic municipal police template for their insignia. The
flag is the insignia centered on a white field, though I did have to adjust a
few colors.
