Sigel may soon have its own flag
Jackson Adams Effingham Daily News
A new flag may soon fly over not just the Sigel Sesquicentennial celebration but also the town itself. Cody Hill, a
student at St. Michael's School, designed the flag chosen to represent the Sigel Sesquicentennial. The flag will be taken to the town council to see if it could become the town's flag.
A contest at Sigel St. Michael School ended Friday, which challenged sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to design a flag
for the 150th anniversary of the town's founding and the design will be taken to the town council to determine whether it will be used to represent the city. Cody Hill, a sixth-grader at St. Michael's designed the winning flag, which was was ultimately voted on by the Sigel Centennial committee to represent the celebration.

Teachers at St. Michael's chose five entries to submit to the Centennial committee. From there, the submissions were narrowed to three and were voted on by the committee. Hill's flag won by one vote. "He had a nice flag design," said Kent Jansen, committee chairman. "This was just a good picture to put on a flag. The top two were the toughest vote."
Jansen will take Hill's design to the town council to see if a resolution may be passed that would allow the flag to become a permanent representation of the town. He said he is pleased to give Sigel a symbol to show. "Most towns don't have a flag," he said. "We thought we should have it made official at least for the centennial and make if official for the city. We just kind of got everybody involved, the town and the schools, and give the city something to fly."
