Commentary by Heritage Auction: "Grover Cleveland: Silk Portrait Flag. 24" x 15" flag with oval portrait of Cleveland in the canton inscribed "For President Grover Cleveland" superimposed on a blue canton with thirty-eight [38] randomly-arranged stars". As this flag has 38 stars, it could have been used in either his first successful presidential campaign (1884) or his failed second campaign (1888). By the time of his third campaign (1892) which he won, the U.S. flag had 44 stars.
