The name of the municipality of Loška dolina means "valley of Loz", Loz being a medieval town in the valley.

The municipal flag of Loška dolina is provisioned by the municipal temporary Statutes
Statutarni sklep Občine Loška dolina, adopted on 10
February 1995 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni
list Republike Slovenije, 31/95, and by the definitive municipal
Statutes Statut Občine Loška dolina, adopted on 20 May 1999 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 49/99.
The flag is prescribed by Decision Odlok o simbolih, občinskem
prazniku in priznanjih v Občini Loška dolina, adopted on 30 March 2000 and published in the Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 52/2000.
The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:1 (vertical), white, bordered
with green and white squares along the three edges, with the municipal
coat of arms placed in the lower part of the flag.
There is no horizontal flag prescribed.
However, the image in the attachement to the Decision clearly shows
a flag that is 11 green and white squares wide and 19 high. The
squares are prescribed to be 2 x 2 cm (sic!), so that the pictured
flag would be 22 x 38 cm. The prescriptions of the proportions of the
coat of arms also differ between the text and the pictures. The
image shown on the top of this page was made after the pictures
rather than the text of the Decision.
A photo of flags actually flying in Loška dolina shows the municipal flag in proportions 1:3 and with the coat of arms centered.

Coat of arms of Loška dolina - Image by Željko Heimer, 2 September 2002
The coat of arms of Loz dates back from 1477. It shows a golden St.
George slaying the dragon and in chief dexter the Blessed Virgin,
all on a blue background on green ground and hill to dexter. The
modern municipality of Loška dolina reused this coat of arms, as
mentioned in the municipal Statutes quoted above.
It seems that the rather rudimentary artistic rendition of the shapes
in the modern coat of arms is intented to remind the XVth century
original coat of arms. Further details on the coat of arms are given
in the aforementioned Decision on flag and arms.
