It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Shield Gules two jugs Argent in fess, on chief a goshawk Argent holding an inescutcheon Azure charged with five plates in quincunx by his claws, on base a flame of Or and Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "FREGUESIA DE VILA DO PORTO".
Meaning:
The goshawk (Portuguese: açor) is symbol and name giver of the archipelago, often displayed, as also here, with the oldest arms of Portugal, the so called "quina". The jugs are a symbol of the art of pottery, an important business line. The flame refers to the fact that th village had been burnt down twice, in 1576 by the French and in 1616 by a great squadron of Genoeses, who attacked the village and destroyed churches, farms and the local convent of St. Francis. The flame is also symbolising the courage and heroism of the local people in defense of their homeland.

Vila do Porto is one of the five communes of Vila do Porto Municipality; it had 3011 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 26,04 km².
