It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and black.

Shield Sable on a mound Argent issuant from base a cork oak Or fruited and peeled Argent and in chief a crown of thorns Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "FREIXIEL - VILA FLOR".
Meaning:
Yet the coat of arms shows a cork oak instead of an ash: It must have been an option to rather illustrate local produce instead of going for canting arms.

Freixiel was one of the nine communes of Vila Flor Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes ; it had 527 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 33.18 km².
