Shield Azure, in base a lighthouse Argent, with windows Or and fire Gules, in dexter chief a pair of scales Argent balanced by a sword flambant Argent hilted Or, in sinister chief a heron statant Argent armed Or and eyed Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll (Bénard Guedes style) with inscription in black capitals "PONTA GARÇA".
Meaning:
The name of the commune and its lighthouse means "heron's cape". The lighthouse displays the tower of the local lighthouse. The heron (Port.: garça) is a canting element. Sword and scales are attributes of St. Michael, which is not only the name giver of the complete island but also the patron saint of the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo as well.
Please note that an older version displays the attributes held by a winged arm, thus repeating precisely the municipal arms but without circumscription.
