It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of red and yellow.

Shield Azure, in chief a pair of scales Argent garnished Gules, in base three eradicated chestnut trees Or ordered 2:1 with fruits of the same broken Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SÃO MIGUEL DE SOUTO".
Meaning:
The arms are canting. Sword and scales are the attributes of St. Michael, patron saint and namegiver of the commune. The three chestnut trees are symbolising a chestnut grove (Portuguese: souto).

São Miguel do Souto, or simply Souto, Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Santa Maria da Feira Municipality; it had 4696 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 9.4 km².
