It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and green.

Shield Vert; parted by a chevron wavy Argent, charged with a chevronel wavy Azure; in chief a fleur-de-lis Or, in base an eagle Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SENHORIM".
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.
