Presentation of Montalegre e Padroso

Montalegre e Padroso is one of the five communes in Montalegre Municipality created anew by the 2013 changes, resulting from the merger of Padroso commune into Montalegre commune, which was the nominal commune, whose territory encompassed the built up settlement area of Montalegre town, the municipal seat and namesake. Padroso contained also a single settlement, the namesake village, tenfold smaller than Montalegre. The merger created a new commune with two settlements in its confines. The new commune had a population of 1772 inhabitants as of 2021 and covers 32,15 km².
Just like in the case of Vimioso and others, in this case the commune based on much larger settlement had already its symbols approved when the mergers occurred in 2012-2013, but the less important commune(s) disestablished to join it had not. Here again, it was decided to keep the previous armourial arrangement itself unchanged, as well as the flag background pattern, modifying only the scroll text to accomodate the newdesignation. In some of these cases, there are also changes in the blazon text, but not in this case. Ditto for other changes concerning the number of visible towers in the mural coronet and/or the shape of the scroll.
