It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert, two cauldrons Or between a Paschal Lamb Proper nimbed Or in chief and a well with two water taps Argent pouring water. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "S. JOÃO DOS CALDEIREIROS".
Meaning:
The Paschal Lamb is an attribute of St.John the Baptist, name giver of the commune. The kettles (Port.: caldeiras) are canting elements.

São João dos Caldeireiros Commune is one of the seven communes of the Mértola municipality (q.v.); it had 567 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 103.4 km².
