It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, a fortress Azure masoned Sable with port and windows Argent and having two embattled towers, in chief a heraldic rose Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert, flanked by two wheat sheaves Vert tied Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "NOSSA SENHORA DA VILA".
Meaning:
The rose is an attribute of St. Mary, as Our Lady of the Town name giver of the commune. Note that there is no attribute of St. John of God, the local patron saint.

Shield Vert, a tree eradicated Or fruited Gules, superimposed by a sinister bendy crozier and a bendy baton crowned by a patriarchal cross, all Argent and in saltire, in chief a pomegranate Or seeded Gules and crowned by a crosslet Sable, in base a throughout bridge Argent masoned Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "NOSSA SENHORA DO BISPO".

Coat of arms

Shield Or a menhir Sable garnished Or, surrounded by a branch of blackberry and a branch of vine, both Vert fruited Purpure and tied Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "SILVEIRAS".
Meaning: "Silveiras" means "blackberry hedges". The blackberry branch is thus a canting element.
