It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Shield Or; a bunch of six rye ears Vert, two corn cobs Or leaved Argent and a grapevine Argent leaved Vert; in chief six 5-point stars Azure ordered 3:3. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "ESPINHO - MANGUALDE".
Meaning:
The stars are representing the settlements, forming the commune. Their blue colour is symbolizing their riches of water. Corn and rye are representing agriculture. The grapevine is representing viticulture. The Dão Region is famous for its high quality vines. Finally the golden colour of the shield is representing the sun.
