Shield Azure with base wavy of five barrulets Argent-Azure-Argent-Vert-Argent, issuant from base wavy a caravel Or, rigged and flagged Argent, on dexter chief point a 7-point star Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "FREGUESIA DE ESPOSENDE".
Meaning:
The caravel is symbolising the importance of seafaring in the past. The base wavy is a representation of the mouth of the Cávado River, uniting a blue wave, used for sweet water, representing the river, and a green wavy, used for sea water, representing the Atlantic. The star is an attribute of Our Lady of the Angles, the local patron saint.

The symbols have never been published in Diário da República. They were proposed by the Comissão de Heráldica da Associação dos Arqueólogos Portugueses (CHAAP) on 16 February 1996, but the adoption of the proposal was refused by the commune, which used the municipal symbols instead. The commune claimed a mural crown with four towers for town status due to the fact that the number of its inhabitants hd been bigger then 3000.
