Shield Argent, an eradicated furze (Latin: Ulex europaeus) Vert, blossomed Or; in chief a pair of scales Azure, balanced by a sword flambant Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "S. MIGUEL DO MATO - AROUCA".
Meaning:
Sword and scales are attributes of St. Michael, name giver and local patron saint of the commune.
