It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Shield Argent divided by a saltire Sable, the base quarter displaying a plough Azure with plough share Gules, all others an oak twig Vert with acorns Vert capsuled Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals: "CUNHEIRA - ALTER DO CHÃO"

Cunheira Commune is one of the four communes of Alter do Chão Municipality (q.v.); it had 389 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 35.23 km².
