Josef Nuesse's
"Ships and Flags" website shows the house flag of S. Bartz-Johannessen A/S, a
Bergen-based company, as a blue triangular pennant charged with a white star
tilted to the upper left corner. The same flag, with a different shade of blue,
probably irrelevant, is shown as the house flag of Knarrevik-based AS Sigba,
presented as ex-Rederiet Bartz-Johannessen.

Rederiet S. Bartz-Johannessen A/S, originally the
company of Sigfinn Bartz-Johannessen, apparently became the holder company in
the nineteen eighties. AS Sigba, probably from Sig(fin) Ba(rtz Johannessen),
seem to be the company to do the actual overseas freight transport. There are
other daughter companies for other aspects of the business.

Spanish fess of red-white-red with blue letters 'SEAL' in the central
stripes, separated by small blue discs.
Jorge Candeias, 7 March 1999
The flag appears as a swallowtail in Josef Nüsse's house flags website: http://flags.seeleute.net/ as "S.E.A.L. - Scandinavian East Africa Line A/S - Oslo".
This webpage about nautical
abbreviations mentions SEAL as "Scandinavian East Africa Line, Oslo -
Norwegische Reederei" (i.e. Norwegian shipping company).
Santiago Dotor, 17 May 2005
The Scandinavian East Africa Line was the name the
NAL used for their service to Madagascar. Hence the similarity of the flags.
They started the service in 1921, and in 1981 it was sold to
Deutsche Afrika-Linien, who seem to have absorbed
it into their own services.

The company is specialized in transportation of
chemical and forest products. The flag is swallow-tailed, blue with two thin
white stripes near the top and bottom and a white S placed between the two white
stripes and skewed towards the hoist.
