The coat of arms was designed by Rosi Aragón Okamura, being adopted through a contest in 1978. The inner section is divided into four quadrants, with an inescutcheon. To the upper-left, Mochomo Hill and the Evora River, principal geographic characteristics of the area. To the upper-right, a locomotive of the railway to the Pacific, which helped mark the beginnings of the progress of the municipality. To the lower-left, older items of commerce; sugarcane and sugar, with two pots. To the lower-right, four garbanzo seeds on a pod as a fundamental agricultural product here. In the center, a man on a yellow field stretches out his hands for progress. The border is red, and has in its lower section a ribbon reading "UNIDAD TRABAJO Y SUPERACIÓN" [Unity, Work, and Improvement]; to the upper section "SALVADOR ALVARADO" and a circle above reading 1962, when it became a municipality.

This proposal was designed by Carlos Esqueda, in preparation for the community's 50th anniversary in August 1958; during these times, the community was seeking to become its own municipality. It is unclear if this coat of arms was ever adopted by the community. The lower third depicts a guamúchil (Madras thorn) tree, from which the name of the municipal seat is derived. The central field depicts Mochomo Hill, a primary geographic point in the area. The upper field depicts the mountains with the sun bathing them in its light, having in its center a circle reading 1908, the year the community was founded. The blue border carries the motto CRECIO COMO EL ARBOL, SIN CUIDADO ALGUNO [It grew like a tree, without any care].
