Kisumu Yacht Club was established in 1938 in Kisumu City (formerly known as Port Florence), an inland port located on Lake Victoria, in the south west of Kenya.   Kisumu is the capital city of Kisumu County and is the third largest city in Kenya.

The Kisumu Yacht Club burgee is a pennant (circa 4.5:7) comprising a red field on which is superimposed a thin white horizontal line from hoist to fly, representing the equator, and a black silhouette of a map of the African continent.

The Mombasa Yacht Club was established in 1910 in Liwatoni, Mombasa (Kenya).

The club burgee is a pennant in ratio 1:2 comprising a red field superimposed with a yellow disk surrounded with 14 small attached triangles.

According to its website, "Pleasure sailing had become popular among the upper classes in Britain during the Victoria era and, given the mostly steady winds and warm seas of East Africa together with the presence of visiting Naval and commercial vessels, whose officers would all have been trained under sail, it was inevitable that yachting would become a popular pastime in Mombasa.”
