A feudal lord in the early Edo period, he served Tokugawa Ieyasu and became a retainer of Hidetada.
In 1617, he succeeded to his father's estate and became a feudal lord of Kozuke Province.
He served as a lieutenant in the shogunate until 1634, and became the core of the shogunate cabinet.
The war banner has white background with Sakai’s Kamon family emblem of wood sorrelwith sword blades in black topped with a red Maneki small streaming flag. The wood sorrel with sword blades emblem, one of the five major emblems, is a family emblem favored by warlords that combines the wood sorrel with a sword.

The third son of Sakakibara Yasumasa, he succeeded his father's death and became the second feudal lord of 100,000 goku in Tatebayashi. His war banner has a red background with a white nine stars family emblem.
The personal standard is a square banner with the same design and a square banner with a white circle on a red background.
