The city emblem was adopted on Oct 1st 2005 by Notice No 725 but there is no flag law.
The white flag has a blue city emblem in the center.
The city emblem is a stylized hiragana しも Shimo of Shimonoseki in a form of a blowfish.
The five lines symbolize the merger of one city and four towns.
It represents an image of the city which has an abundant nature, a strait leading to the world
and the citizen’s unlimited capability to the future.
