This is an orange ensign (1:2) with the Jordani national flag in canton, and a pale blue triangle in the fly. I mentioned this flag several months ago as being the flag of the Jordani fire brigade, as I saw it flying at fire brigade stations. Željko Heimer has however informed me that this resembles flags of civil defence in several countries, and is thus probably the flag of the Jordanian Civil Defence, including the Fire Brigade.

In [Vexillaxta #14 (December 2001), there is a colour photo of the flag, which was taken by Michel Lupant in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, in April 2001. Although the flag is not in a very good state, especially near the fly, the triangle appears to be quite large.

While browsing the International Civil Defence Organization site, I spotted a graphic of this flag in a PDF, only somewhat different-looking; the triangle is farther down, almost touching the bottom of the flag (though that could simply be artistic license), and is charged with something – it looks very much like the Royal Jordanian Civil Defence badge that is part of the same graphic.

Our page shows a very simplified design. Is this a variant, or an older (or newer?) flag, of just an innacurate report?

I have browsed my note-book and found only two short entries (24 and 29 March 1997). In the first one I made a short sketch of the flag with the remark "orange ensign." The second entry says the proportions were 1:2 and the triangle was
"taubenblau" (dove-coloured, i.e. a greyish light blue). There I describe it as flag of the fire brigade, because I saw it twice on fire brigade buildings. Although I never saw it close-up, I am pretty sure that there
was no emblem in the triangle.
It is quite possible that the "civil defence flag" with the complicated emblem is only used by the civil defence headquarters, and the simple flag is actually flown by the stations (fire brigade and others) in the country.
Several photographs of the civil defence flag I found at their website: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. At least the first image shows the simple version, with a very small
national flag in the canton, though. The others are not clear enough.
There is another flag, obviously plain (red or dark orange) with an emblem in the center; this could be the civil defence emblem, but the image is not clear at all.
