I would like to inform you of the historical and actual flags
of Albenga, an ancient Roman town in Liguria. The town, seat of
the Ligures Ingauni, was "municipium" under Roman tule
with the name of Albingaunum. In the XII century the
town formed a free comune, which, from 1201 was allied with Genoa, as terra convenzionata. Its
flag, prescribed by municipal laws, was yellow with a red
Saint-George's cross (the same as on the municipal coat of arms),
and was in use until the XVth century. In the XVIth century the
militia of the town used a Genoese flag (white with red cross)
with, in the first top quarter, the municipal flag, yellow with
red cross.
