As reported in article Natječaj za izradu idejnog rješenja grba i zastave Općine Stari Jankovci, published on 5 January 1996 in Vinkovački list (scan), the session resulted in the prescription of the competition, with all the usual conditions. The awards were set to 5000, 3500 and 200 kunas, and the deadline to 30 days. The article Usvojen zaključni račun, published on 9 February 1996 in Vinkovački list (scan) reports that the Municipality Executive Board decided to call a session of the Commission for the design of the coat of arms and the flag, to be followed by a session of the Municipality Assembly.
The article Prihvaćeno financijsko izvješće, published on 1 March 1996 in Vinkovački list (scan) reports that the Municipality Assembly adopted "several decisions" regarding the coat of arms and the flag. First they heard a report from the Commission for the competition, and then the design of the coat of arms and of the flag was chosen, an appropriate Decision being adopted. The sequence of activities to gain approval for these was determined. Mayor Ivo Lozić was tasked to send the request for the approval to the Ministry of Administration.
