Nuštar is located some 10 km west of Vukovar. It has 6,500 inhabitants, 4,000 in the village of the same name.

The symbols of Nuštar are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Nuštar i načinu i uvjetima njihove
uporabe i zaštite, adopted on 22 September 1999 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 8 October 1999 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Vukovarsko-srijemske županije, No. 8.
The process of adoption of the symbols started with Decision Odluka o izradi grba i zastave Općine Nuštar, adopted on 4 June 1997 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 10 June 1997 in Službeni vjesnik Vukovarsko-srijemske županije, No. 3.
The symbols are described in Articles 5-7 of the Town Statutes Status Općine Nuštar, adopted on 11 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 22 October 2001 in Službeni vjesnik Vukovarsko-srijemske županije, No. 12.
The flag is prescribed as in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle. The coat of arms is 500 mm x 681 mm in size, placed 750 mm
from the left and right edges of the flag, 167 mm from the flag's top and 152 mm from the flag's bottom.
The flag, as seen hoisted over the Municipality Hall in 2004, has no yellow border around the coat of arms.

The coat of arms is prescribed as "In blue St. Ann with Child Jesus, sitting on a silver/white bank and holding a silver/white book in her lap."
