The municipality of Špišić Bukovica (4,733 inhabitants in 2001, 1,871 in the village of Špišić Bukovica) is located less than 10 km north-east of Virovitica.
Željko Heimer, 22 September 2003
The symbols of Špišić Bukovica are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi mjesta i Općine Špišić Bukovica, adopted in 2008 and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni vjesnik Općina Špišić Bukovica, No. 5.
This was amended by Decision Odluka o izmjeni i dopuni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Špišić Bukovica, published on 3 February 2010 in Službeni vjesnik Općina Špišić Bukovica, No. 1. The only change was the removal of the words mjesta i (place of) from the title and text of the Decision.
The symbols, designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, were approved on 24 April 2009 by the Central State Office for Administration.
The flag (photo) is described in Article 12 of the Decision, as follows:
The flag of the municipality of Špišić Bukovica is of white colour. In the centre of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals, there is the coat of arms of the municipality on both sides, outlined with a golden/yellow ribbon. The ratio of width to length is 1:2.
This is repeated, in a somewhat different wording, in the 2009 and 2013 Municipality Statutes.
After years of use of the previous, unapproved symbols, the municipality officials initiated the procedure of adoption of new symbols that may get approved. This should have been "a mere formality" (Grb na pomolu, Virovitički list, 23 January 2004).

Coat of arms of Špišić Bukovica - Image by Željko Heimer, 2 December 2009
The coat of arms is described in Article 10 of the Decision, as follows:
The coat of arms of Špišić Bukovica is in a semi-circular shield. In a blue shield of the coat of arms there is a silver-white spike [Croatian heraldic term for a pile reversed]. In the spike there is a brown heap of seven logs from which is issuing a red flame. The seven logs heap represents the seven villages of the municipality of Špišić Bukovica, and the red flames issuing from them represent the traditional St. John's bonfires, made each year on the occasion of St. John the Baptist feast-day.
Blue represents the river Drava, while white represents the goodwill and hospitality of the inhabitants of the municipality of Špišić Bukovica.
This is repeated, the last sentence excluded, in the 2009 and 2013 Municipality Statutes.

The ceremonial flag (photo) is dark blue, with yellow edges and yellow fringe along (at least parts of) the bottom, with the coat of arms in the centre, some yellow inscription (the municipality's name no doubt, but exact configuration is hard to judge) above and two yellow branches below, of which only the sinister birch branch was visible.
