The coat of arms is "Gules a sword erect argent hilt with hand-guard or wrapped with two fig branches also or".
The fig (Croatian, smokva) branches make the arms canting the community name; linguists believe that the origin of the name of the townis actually Roman or even pre-Roman, being related with "pathways". Canting arms need not to be that strict and may be based on spurious etymology.
