The flag is horizontally divided blue-green (2:1) with a white dove in the blue stripe.
The flag is derived from the coat of arms, "Azure a terrace vert allover a dove argent". In the flag, the dove is completely included in the blue stripe.
The colors of the arms are based on historical documents from the
18th-19th centuries, especially the two atlases published in 1745-1746
by Prince Vakhushti (Vakhushti Batonishvili, 1696-1757), which give
vert as the color of the Imeriti region. The colors represent dignity,
nobleness, and the aspiration of the inhabitants to a better future,
as well as the beauty of the region.
The dove, in Georgian, mtredi, makes the arms canting. It also
represents the Holy Spirit, as the messenger of God's will.
The proportions of the main field and base of the coat of arms are
prescribed as 2:1.
