Burgee

[East Antrim Boat Club burgee]image located by Jan Mertens, 24 August 2011

The burgee can be seen in detail at http://www.eabc.org.uk/.  It is navy blue with a yellow six-sided star bearing a yellow windowed lighthouse.

Situated on the coast to the N. of Belfast (N. Ireland), Larne is host town to the East Antrim Boat Club. Website: http://www.eabc.org.uk. From the ‘About’ section we learn that the club was founded in 1950, then bearing the name ‘East Antrim Motor Boat and Cruising Club’. Concentrating on hydroplanes and motor cruising, sailing was to come to the fore later.

Appearing as a drawing on the site, the burgee seems to have a purple field (but does it?), in the hoist a red six-pointed star bearing a yellow lighthouse. This photo is inconclusive (second row, last but one at right): http://www.flickr.com/photos/carlingfordsailingclub/2921490726. The six-pointed star surely alludes to N. Ireland whereas the lighthouse is a famous local landmark: http://www.photographers-resource.co.uk/A_heritage/Lighthouses/LG_Ireland/chaine_tower.htm
