As explained in "La Voz de Galicia," the municipal flag of A Estrada was never formally approved by the Xunta (Government) of Galicia. It was only approved, in 1985, by the Council of the Presidency of the Government. The coat of arms, approved in 1928 by the Municipal Council, also requires formal approval.
According to a recent Decree (No. 19/2010, February 2010), the Heraldry Council of the Government of Galicia has to approve municipal flags and arms. A meeting of the Informative Cultural Commission of A Estrada was scheduled on 16 June to launch the procedure for the formal approval of the symbols.
A photo of the flag is attached to the article, showing some differences in the rendition of the arms compared to the Heráldica Municipal de Pontevedra version.

In "Faro de Vigo" Ana Cela reports the same news and gives the interpretation of the coat of arms, from municipal sources, as follows: the star, a symbol of happiness, represents greatness, truth, light, majesty, peace and prudence. The tower, a symbol of height and elevation, asylum and protection, represents the feudal towers of Giumarei, A Barreira and Pazo de Oca. The oak branch is the symbol of a strong and constant mind and of sucess, the palm is a symbol of victory and triumph. The paths refer to the pilgrimage to Santiago, as does the scallop.
