Symbols of Sariegos

The flag and arms of Sariegos are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 13 October 1995 by the León Provincial Government, signed on the same day by the President of the Government, and published on 13 December 1995 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 237 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Quadrangular flag, white with a blue horizontal stripe of 1/4 of the flag's side in height. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Argent a lion purpure crowned or on waves, a bordure azure four stars or. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The Royal Academy of History stated that the proposed arms are a variation of the Royal arms of León. This is not fully compliant with the traditional practices of heraldry, but cannot be definitively rejected. There is no objection to accept the proposed flag, either.
