Shield Azure, a sinister facing helmet Argent, crested with a negro head Sable with scarf Or and headband Gules.
Meaning:
The oldest seal from 1335 already displayed a head with a shuddering headband, the symbol of the name giving Marshals of Pappenheim. The current arms are based on the second seal in use since around 1340, made of bronze, which displayed the head sinister facing as crest of a helmet. It was used as main city seal until the 18th century. Later seals displayed only the torso of a negro. Siebmacher (1856) displayed erroneously a negro woman with a long plait.
