Shield Azure an inescutcheon Argent, charged with an impending saltire Azure.
Meaning:
Although Ellingen had been one of the headquarters of the Teutonic Order, there had been no local autonomy until the beginning of the 19th century. Thus there had been no local seals. The saltire here is a differentiation of the order's arms, as Ellingen had been seat of the Franconian bailiwick of the order and seat of its Master of Germany (German: Deutschmeister, Latin: Magister Germaniae) .
