Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess Gules over Argent, charged with St. John the Baptist, dressed Or, holding in his right arms a Paschal Lamb couchant Argent with Labarum (white with throughout red Latin cross)
Meaning:
The colours red and white are the city colours and had also been the colours of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg, to which the city historically belonged. The arms had been changed during the communist era. On 21 June 1960 a shield quartered of Gules and Argent was introduced, charged with a combined blue wheel, at the upper half having a pit rope, at the lower half being a cogwheel, both parts charged with a grain ear Or, over all an alembic Argent. The charges were symbolising mining (wheel with rope), industries (cogwheel), agriculture (grain ear) and chemical industry (alembic). On 1 June 1990 the local council decided to restore the old arms, which in 1994 had however not been confirmed by the State of Saxony-Anhalt due to transgression of heraldic rules. Thus in 1995 the mural crown was abolished. The colour of the mural crown always had been uncertain. Furthermore the colour of the dress of St. John the Baptist was changed from red to golden.
St. John the Baptist is patron saint of Leopoldshall borough.
