Meaning:
The first seal, in use after 1426, just displayed tower and tree on a triplemount. In the end of the 15th century the lozenges were added and the shield was supported by St. George with the dragon. Chief and lion were added in 1542 on occasion of the grant of city rights. Lozenges and Palatine lion are stressing the rule of the Wittelsbach kin. The colours of the banner are those of the Palatinate.
