The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over white horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a silver(=white) field is a red, statant, double queued lion, armed tongued and crowned blue. Below is a field chequered in to 16 squares of blue and silver(=white).
Meaning:
According to According to Rolf Nagel: "Rheinisches Wappenbuch" , Köln 1987, the lion is symbolizing the counts and dukes of Berg, the chequered board is symbolizing the lords of Menden, who had a castle in the territory of the city.

Flag and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on in 1969 to the municipality, in 1977 to the city. The coat of arms was the former coat of arms of Amt Menden, approved by the Oberpräsident of the Prussian Rheinprovinz in 1936.
