Meaning:
Lentföhrden was first mentioned in 1479. In the past the region is characterized by vast swamps and groves, the perfect living environment for blackcocks. The shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend wavy into green over blue. Above are three golden (= yellow) hazelnuts barbed black. Below is a silver (= white) half millstone.
Meaning:
The bend wavy is alluding to the Schirnau, the local mill brook. According to Laur (1992) the name is derived from "nut", the Lower German word is the same as the English word. The name was derived from "Nudzynge" (about 1520) - "Nutzing" (about 1533) - "Nutzen" (about 1650). The number of nuts is representing the settlement cores of Nützen proper, Kämpen und Springhirsch. The broken millstone is alluding to the long lease wind- and watermill of the Blome family in Kämpen. The mill had a great economic importance.
