It is a blue over green horizontal bicolour with centred arms. The shield is surrounded by embowed black inscriptions "Samtgemeinde"(above) and "Geestequelle" (beneath).

Shield Argent, an eradicated oak tree Vert with five leaves, in base a bar wavy Azure.
Meaning:
The bar wavy is symbolising little Geeste River, name giver of the comprehensive municipality. The leaves of the oak tree are symbolising the five municipalities of Geestequelle.

Meaning:
The razor with an animal's head as hilt was made in the Bronze Age and found in 1954 by Hermann Müller near Alfstedt.

The crossed keys are representing the Bishopric of Bremen. The sword is symbolising the local court, which had been here in the past.

Meaning:
The boar (German: Eber) is a canting element. The two weapons (axe and spear) from the Stone Age have been found in the municipality. The colours green and yellow are symbolising forests and farmland.

Description of coat of arms:
Shield Azure, a bordure of 20 alternating pieces of sable and Or, a bearded saint Argent in half length portrait, holding a spear and a sword both Or, dressed in clad armour Argent with a Latin cross Sable upon his breast, nimbed Or. The helmet Argent sometimes is coloured Azure.
Meaning:
Oerel was founded in 937. St. Gangulphus, a Burgundian martyr, died in 760 and is patron saint of the local parish church. Oerel is the seat of the comprehensive municipality.
