In the centre of a white sheet between a blue stripe at the top edge and a red stripe at the bottom edge is the city's coat of arms.

Bredstedt City Coat of Arms

The base is nine times divided per fess wavy into silver (= white) and blue. Above in a red field is a silver (= white) wooden bridge.
Meaning:
The arms are based upon a seal of the market town from 1691. The bridge had been a landmark since time immemorial. Bredstedt is first mentioned 1231 in the "earth book" of Danish king Waldemar II as a royal dominion. 1510 Bredstedt gained the rank of a town, 1530 of a market town, 1900 of a city. The town declined after the access to the open sea got lost by dyking in the 18th century. The bridge is symbolizing former commercial connections. The base is symbolizing the North Sea.

Breklum Municipal Coat of Arms

In a green shield is a silver (=white) frond. On the dexter chiefpoint is a Lutheran rose, i.e. silver (= white) barbed green and seeded red superimposed by a white Latin cross.
Meaning:
Breklum is the seat of Christian-Jensen-College, the centre of overseas mission (Afrika, Asia and Latin America) of the Lutheran Church of Nordelbien, lit. "lands north of Elbe river". This is symbolized by the Lutheran rose. The fern is an endemic species and gave the municipality its name. The name is derived from Danish "Brekling", i.e. a location, where ferns (Danish: bregne) are growing. The three branches are symbolizing the settlement cores of Breklum proper, Borsbüll and Riddorf.

Drelsdorf Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided by a blue sinister bend wavy. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a red church tower. Below in a silver (=white) field is a green juniper.
Meaning:
The blue bend is symbolizing Ostenau creek dividing the village into two parts. The juniper is symbolizing the nature protection area of Schirlbusch. The tower stands for the Romenesque parish church built in 1200. A picture inside gave the idea to Theodor Storm's novel "Aquis submersus" (Engl.:"sunk by the waters").

Goldebek Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield parted (abased) by a bend wavy Or, above Azure a windmill Argent in sinister chief, beneath Vert a bull's head caboshed Argent in dexter base.
Meaning:
The abased partition is hardly visible on flag. The colours blue and green a symbolising the wide sky and the meadows of the municipality. The golden bend wavy is a canting element, as the municipality's name means "golden creek". The windmill is symbolising the cultivation of grain. The bull's head is symbolising cattle breeding.

Goldelund Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per fess elevated. The fess is twice embowed on the dexter side, the first elevation is higher. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a green branch of oak with two leaves and one acorn. Below in a green field is a golden (= yellow) corncob crossed with a stick of the same colour. The shield has a plain blue chief, not more than a horizontal stripe at the top edge.
Meaning:
The blue chief is the Goldebeker Mühlenstrom, a creek being the northern boundary of the municipality. The golden/yellow colour together with the oak branch is canting. Goldelund means "wood upon infertile ground", i.e. the yellowish sandy soil. The green borderline is symbolizing the nowadays landscape, a plain and two ridges of dunes. The cob is symbolizing agriculture. The 15 maize kernels are symbolizing the 15 settlement cores in 1793. Finally the stick was an instrument, where news had been fixed by a bailiff (Dorfvogt).

At the bottom of a blue field is a golden (= yellow) rounded pile pointing to the sinister edge. The pile is superimposed by a red thing staff. Above left is a silver (= white) modern windmill having twelve vanes. The base is a plain, green field.
Meaning:
The blue colour is symbolizing the pure air near the sea. The pile is symbolizing the hill, that gave the name to the municipality. The staff was an instrument to spread out the latest news.The green base is symbolizing agriculture. The windmill is symbolizing the trend-setting power supply by wind since 1923.

Joldelund Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield Or with orle Azure interrupted on dexter flanch, parted by a s-shaped barrulet Vert, above an oak leaf Vert with two acorns of the same, beneath a windmill Vert.
Meaning:
The barrulet wavy is symbolising the Kammberg, a 30 metres hill on the local moraine. Excavations on the hill are proving that the area was settled since the 3rd century. The oak leave is symbolising the local hedges as protection against wandering dunes. The Dutch windmill was built in 1771, which had been a privileged windmill. Green and gold are the colours of agriculture.

Kolkerheide Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per bend sinister engrailed. Above in a green field is a golden (= yellow) beehive. Below in a golden (= yellow) field is a black bull's head.
Meaning:
The five points on the engrailed line are symbolizing the settlement cores/frams forming Kolkerheide, which was established in 1761 as "Christians Höhe" populated by settlers from southern Germany. The inhabitants of nearby Joldelund let the heather landscape for rent. The payment consisted of two tons, approx. 450 pounds of honey a year. This is symbolized by the beehive. The main business line today is the production of beef and milk, which is symbolized by the bull's head.

Lütjenholm Municipal Coat of Arms

In the centre of a blue shield is a golden (= yellow) inescutcheon showing a blue bluebottle (Latin: Centaurea cyanus) with seven silver (= white) leaves. On the sinister side of the inescutcheon the shield is divided by three silver (= white), bendy leaves into red over green.
Meaning:
The name of the municipality means "small island", symbolized by the inescutcheon; surrounded by three creeks, symbolized by the blue colour; accrued from the glacial period, symbolized by the leaves on the sinister side; the heather, symbolized by the red colour; and the forest, symbolized by the green colour. The flower in the centre is a symbol of thriving in the village.

Sönnebüll Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a fess Or embowed irregularly; above Azure, three trees Or at dexter connected and bowed to sinister, a disc Or over a farmhouse of the same at sinister; beneath Vert three horizontal lines of billets Or.
Meaning:
The municipality's name means "home of the son", not "of the sun". Nevertheless the golden disc is representing the sun and symbolising the local photovoltaics. The embowed "fess" is symbolising the borderline between the hillside in the West and the bogs in the east, called the "Alps of Sönnebüll" by the local people. Alongside this borderline there had been clay deposits, which are the base of local brickyards, symbolised by the billets. The connected trees are windbreakers and symbolising the importance of wind energy. Green is representinging the landscape and blue the sky.

Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per pale. On the dexter side in a golden (= yellow) field are three green leaves of thornbush ordered paly. On the sinister side in a blue field is a half silver (= white) windmill. A fess wavy is in the base being blue on the dexter half and silver (= white) on the sinister half.
Meaning:
The leaves are a canting element standing for shrubs (Lower German: Strucken). Struckum was first mentioned in 1352. The number of leaves is alluding to the settlement cores of Struckum, Fehsholm and WallsbJüll, which joined Struckum in the 19th century. The fess wavy is symbolizing the little Arlau river and the near by Wadden Sea. The windmill was ercted in 1806, in function until the 60ies of the 19th century, renovated in 1972 and completely restored in 2003.

The shield is divided by golden crossroads into blue (above right and left) and green (below right and left. The field above left is superimposed by a silver (= white) cloud. The field below right is superimposed by a silver (= white) farmhouse.
Meaning:
The crossroads are the connections between Bredstedt and Flensburg (Borgerweg) and T?nder and Wedel (Ochsenweg). The green colour and the farmhouse are symbolizing agriculture, while the cloud on blue ground is symbolizing wind energy.

Bredstedt-Land Subcounty Coat of Arms

In a yellow shield is a blue inescutcheon showing a silver (= white) bull's head. The inescutcheon is surrounded by 14 house silhouettes watched from the gable end. 11 of them are green. The other three in position beneath the middle base point and above the outer chiefpoints are slightly bigger, red and bearing a white Latin cross.
Meaning:
The former subcounty was established on 1 April 1970. 14 municipalities belonged to the subcounty (Amt). Those were: Ahrenshöft, Almdorf, Bohmstedt, Breklum, Drelsdorf, Goldebek, Goldelund, Högel, Joldelund, Kolkerheide, Lütjenholm, Sönnebüll, Struckum and Vollstedt. Breklum, Drelsdorf and Joldelund were seats of a parish, which is denoted by the cross in the gable. The yellow colour is symbolizing the sandy soil. The inescutcheon is symbolizing agriculture and the main business line, the production of milk. The colours blue and white are symbolizing the open landscape and the clear air.
