Shield Vert, issuant from base St. Lawrence nimbed Or and robed Azure, holding a gridiron Sable in bend sinister in his left hand, in front of him issuant from dexter base an embattled church tower Or with spire.
Meaning:
St. Lawrence is the patron saint of the town as well as of the smiths. The latter probably is the reason for a Catholic saint, surviving after the introduction of the Reformation. Liebenau had been famous for its production of scythe blades. The pattern with saint and church is known since 1558. The colours of the arms were introduced in the 20th century. The colours blue and yellow according to source are taken from the lion in the arms of the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, who acquired the town, after the Counts of Hoya had died out in 1582.
