It is a red-white-red vertical triband with ratio of stripes approx. 2:9:2. The coat of arms is shifted to the top within the white stripe.

Zell Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a fess Argent, charged with barrulets wavy Azure, crested by two swan necks Gules and Argent, connected by three annulets Or.
Meaning:
The municipality gained the rank of a city in 1810, lost it in 1921 and regained it in 1950. Zell had been an Austrian fiefdom since 1511, ruled by the Lords of Schönau as vassals of Austria. The first seal of the local reeve with prints from 1671 displayed the arms with the crest of the Schönau kin with scarves of red and white and swan necks of the same, connected by three golden annulets. The shield displays modified arms of Austria. The barrulets wavy are representing the Große Wiese, a local river and are alluding to the supplement in the city's name. In the 1970ies the shield without crest prevailed.
