Münnerstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a castle Argent masoned Sable with port Sable and portcullis Argent and two towers with cone roofs, between the towers impending St. Mary with child holding an orb Or, she is dressed Azure and holding a sceptre Or by her sinister hand.
Meaning:
Münnerstadt gained city rights in 1335. The first seal from 1297 displayed a similar pattern, but in port a mounted Count of Henneberg and a shield parted, one half displaying the Henneberg hen, the other the Zollern lion. The seal fom 1338 displayed a castle with three towers, the central tower charged with an inescutcheon displaying the Henneberg arms, since 1354 by a shield quartered with the arms of Henneberg and Würzburg. The central tower was replaced by St. Mary in 1585, after the Bishopric of Würzburg had gained the complete control over the city. In the gate had been an inescutcheon displaying the arms of Bishop Julius Echter of Mespelbrunn. This inescutcheon was omitted in 1819. The tinctures were fixed in 1959 by the city council.
