Shield Gules, a lion passant Or, armed and tongued Azure, in base an initial "E" Or.
Meaning:
The existence of the first town seal is proven by prints since 1550, displaying a sinister facing lion passant over an initial, all without shield. The lion had been considered to be that one of the
Lords of Homburg
, who granted market rights in the 14th century. More likely it is the lion of the
Welfen kin
, as Eschershausen became a possession of the
Dukes of Braunschweig
in 1409. In the 17th century the lion was displayed crowned without initial. In the 20th century the old pattern was restored.
