Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow horizontal bicolour. The coat of amrs is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter half shows in a golden (= yellow) field a dark red tower of a church with a green spire. The sinister half shows in a blue field a golden (= yellow) rampant lion. Below the lion are three wavy fesses of the same colour.
Meaning:
According to source the dexter half shows the tower of Marienhausen in the municipality, which had been built in the 16th century. The lion is taken from the arms of the lords of Jever. In the 16th century lady Maria of Jever had built the church. She also ordered a large area to be reclaimed from the sea as a polder. The wavy fesses are symbolizing the North Sea.
